2021 proved to be a year that definitely took a toll on us. Especially our mental state. With all the chaos and craziness around us, it’s hard to find any peace of mind. That’s why this year needs to be different.
It is the year of success, and to make that happen, there has to be a genuine desire to make changes. Time is the one thing you can not get back; therefore, make the best of your time left.
There are a few areas in your life where change needs to occur to begin the process of self-renewal. Rediscovering yourself can be a fantastic experience within your journey, depending on how you perceive it. This leads to the first area in life that needs to be adjusted to experience your mental cloud 9.
Perception
Perception is defined as how you think about or understand someone or something. Another definition says the way that you notice or understand something using one of your senses. We are all different people, enabling us to see things from different perspectives. Using our different senses.
Many of us have distorted perceptions due to past traumas and situations that slowly warp our vision of others and the world around us. That doesn’t mean that it can’t be fixed. It may be more complicated than most due to the damage that has been done, but it can be repaired if not managed healthily.
The change begins with how you choose to look at yourself and your place in this world. Even those who feel that they have no place have a purpose in this world. You must choose to see things through a filtered glass. Learn to see what is essential and what will help you move forward in your journey to rediscover and fall in love with yourself all over again.
Acceptance
As you begin to change your perception, you begin to see yourself and the situations in your life in a whole new light. You begin to see not only where others hurt you or did you wrong, but the hurt and wrong you caused in others.
This probably is the most challenging and complex but most rewarding step. You can not fix a problem until you realize it’s a problem. Accepting that there is something wrong with you and that you made some bad decisions along the way is not a bad thing. It’s your starting point to begin to fix what was once broken.
Once you have pinpointed where you went wrong, you can begin to make the necessary changes. Acceptance is a huge step in the right direction to starting your healing process. It may be a process that can literally change overnight or take a few years. Either way, a step forward is progress.
Forgiveness
It is important to understand that we all make mistakes. Once you have learned to accept your weaknesses, you can begin your healing process. It starts with forgiveness. Not towards others, at first, but for yourself. Forgiving yourself allows you to fully let go and start with a fresh, new canvas.
Looking at what is ahead of you instead of slowing yourself down by looking back. Understanding that you can not recover lost time. But moving forward, make every moment count as you uncover your journey, your unique path.
Once you can forgive yourself, you can allow that same forgiveness for others. Forgiving others does not necessarily mean allowing that person back into your life. If they are toxic, it’s best to distance yourself from what will stunt your growth process.
Letting go of all that has held you back and taking the weight of others’ opinions and actions off of you. To not carry anything that can damage you in your walk towards a new, better you. Forgiving others allows your mind and heart to be at peace.
Self-Love
Learning to love yourself can be such an exciting experience. Allowing your mind to finally see you for who you are, is a unique, refreshing experience. Discovering new things about yourself that you could not see before gives you the strength and determination to become better.
Learning to love and express love towards yourself will be different for everyone. It may mean having to leave certain relationships or certain bad habits for some. This becomes easy when you love yourself because you see how this will benefit you mentally.
Self-love also involves letting go of all of the opinions of those around you towards you. When you begin to fall in love with yourself again, you realize you are worth so much more. This allows you to start setting standards and boundaries for yourself that will help you grow and help those around you grow.
Setting Boundaries
Once you have realized what you need and what you are willing to accept and reject in your life. You will begin to set boundaries for yourself and those around you. You will want to surround yourself with those who will push you to be better and continue to help you grow.
You will better understand what you are worth, making your choices much more thought out. You will have a vision and a purpose. You will be more cautious about what you allow to enter your mind. The mind is a fragile treasure, and it must be guarded wisely. You must take the time to filter through what you will allow your mind to take in.
Discipline
You did it! You made the necessary changes. Now what? Making the required changes is only the beginning. Maintaining it requires discipline. Nothing great in life comes easy. You have to not only want it but work at it every day to slowly evolve into the amazing person you were created to be.
Finding ways to keep you motivated every day needs to become a part of your daily routine. Whether through motivational speeches, daily affirmations, exercise, time to do your make-up or hair, whatever will keep you inspired to keep going. Practice self-love when you start to doubt yourself. Talk to those who will encourage and uplift you. Seek help from a professional.
This year is the year to reclaim what was once lost. Our mental sanity and peace. Making such a significant change is not easy, and I can be the first to attest to it. Every new day gives us a chance to start fresh. To restore, to heal, and to grow. Know you are not alone. There are so many others looking to also reach their mental cloud 9. Be the change you want to see in the world.
